What could be more appropriate to write about on my first blog than the benefits of sports massage?

It has been well documented and most people know from experience that it helps reduce pain, stiffness and recovery-time. That’s a given, but as a sportsman what I find most beneficial about massage is its capacity to prop-up a training plan. Prevention of injury is surely the most important factor when trying to accomplish any sporting goal. Why should a niggle have to develop into a problem? Where some training plans fall apart with an emerging overuse injury, sports massage can support the athlete through the injury quagmire. So what is it?

But that’s enough about sport, what else? A sports massage doesn’t have to be just for sportsmen and women. Not all of us are lucky enough to have time for sport and most of us sit in the same position behind a desk for the majority of the day. Poor posture or even just prolonged positioning at work are some of the most common sources of a neck and back problems. The benefits of sports massage in terms of improving muscle and movement quality are directly transferrable to these problems. After all what are postural related muscle problems if they’re not just another overuse injury?

Next blog: Let’s talk about posture.
